Automatic updates
Two optional ways to keep your files in order without asking every time. Manual commands always keep working.
What it's for
1. Update at the end of a chat
If you choose it, Claude updates your record on its own when you say goodbye, say you're done or type “pause”, and also after important things: a problem worked through, a report read, a stage of the journey. If you don't, at the end of the chat Claude asks whether to update.
2. Scheduled upkeep
If you choose it, as often as you decide, Claude tidies your record (with a backup), your tags (existing ones only) and your map (only if you chose it for the map).
Upkeep only sees your files, not your chats. Anything that needs your yes, such as new information for the record or a new tag, becomes a proposal, and Claude asks you about it in your next chat. Your card, notebook (apart from tags), texts, style profile and novels are never touched.
Upkeep works where Claude can create scheduled tasks, for example in Cowork. Otherwise Claude tells you, and you use the commands.

Today I realised that noise tires me more than physical effort
That's an important observation. We'll keep it in mind when we talk about work.
ok thanks, see you tomorrow
See you tomorrow! I've updated your record: section 7 now has your observation about noise, in your words.

that's it for today
All right. Two new things came up today: your observation about noise and the name of your new physiotherapist. Shall I update your record?

Upkeep done. I saved a backup, merged two parts of your record that were both about sleep, and tagged 3 new notebook entries. There are 2 proposals to confirm.
let's start
Welcome back. There are 2 proposals from yesterday's upkeep: would you like to see them now or later?
now
In your notebook, on 12/11, you wrote: “since I take the pill in the evening I sleep better”. Shall I add it to your record, with the things about sleep?
Yes
Added. The second proposal is a new tag, #music: would you like it?

End-of-chat update: on. Scheduled upkeep: none. What would you like to change?
Turn on upkeep for my record and tags, on Sunday evenings
Is 8 pm all right? Remember: upkeep only sees your files, not your chats. For what comes up in a chat, there's the end-of-chat update.
That's fine
Scheduled every Sunday at 8 pm: record and tags. The map stays on request only.
What gets saved
- In your record (section 0): your choices and the “Proposals to confirm”.
- In backup/: the backup made at each upkeep.
Claude doesn't notice when you close the chat. It only works when you write to it: if you close without saying anything, whatever came up after the last save is lost, and the next chat can't get it back. Before closing, say goodbye or type update record.
